Michael T. Smaga, 90, of Branford, died Wednesday January 25, 2012 after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Emily Smaga. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps in World War II. For many years he was the owner of New Haven Electric Machine Company until retiring in 1987.
An avid boater, he was a member of the Branford Yacht Club and a member and Past Commodore of the City Point Yacht Club in New Haven. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and EASA (Electrical Apparatus Service Association). He was a Ham Radio Operator, a member of the ARRL (American Radio Relay League) and an avid collector of antique radios. He was also a communicant of St. Mary Church.
Besides his wife he leaves four children, Michael (Brenda), Janice, Thomas (Jacqueline), Kenneth (Lisa) Smaga; and his grandchildren, Eli, Leila, Kenneth and Caitlen Smaga.
Funeral from the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford, Monday at 12:00pm for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church at 12:30 PM. Friends may call prior to the funeral from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
