Deborah Elizabeth Moniti Maloney, age 58, of Branford entered into peaceful rest on April 25, 2008, as a result of a seven year battle with breast cancer.
Debbie was born on November 28, 1949 in New Haven. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, Hamden, in 1967. She received her RN. degree in 1970 from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing. Hartford. Debbie worked in the coronary care unit of the Hospital of St. Raphael from 1970 until 1976. In 1972 she married the love of her life Dave Maloney. She stayed at home while raising their two sons Derek and Jeffrey Maloney.
When her sons entered elementary school Debbie returned to the position of school nurse at Tisko Elementary School, Branford where she has served for the past 23 years. She has touched and enriched the lives of countless children in the Tisko school / community. Caring for children was her passion and she truly loved every child at Tisko. Debbie was instrumental in creating many service related programs and health education initiatives. A regular contributor to classroom learning activities, she put together programs on health, hygiene and childhood diseases in support of the health curriculum. Through the nurse's office, she orchestrated fund raising and charitable activities for the Branford Compassion Club, the Smile Train and the Branford Clothing bank. Debbie returned to SCSU and earned her B.S. degree, magna cum laude in 1997. Deborah is survived by her beloved husband Dave Maloney, her two sons Derek and Jeffrey, her loving parents Frank and Dorothy (Babs) Moniti, of Old Saybrook, a devoted sister Elizabeth Moroni and nieces Jillian, Heather and Charlotte, also of Old Saybrook. She is also survived by several family members in the United Kingdom, on her mother's side of the family. Debbie was a warm, caring, happy-go-lucky woman who had many dear friends and was well respected in the Branford community. She leaves a rich legacy of love and good will to everyone who knew her.
A Memorial Mass celebrating her life will take place on Tuesday April 29th in St. Mary Church, Branford at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family would deeply appreciate contributions to the Debbie Maloney Memorial Fund for student activities at Tisko Elementary School, 118 Damascus Road, Branford, CT 06405.
