In New Haven June 7, 2009, Dorothy "Dottie" Raiola Tamsin, wife of the late Leonard T. Tamsin of 25 Ivy St., Branford.
Mother of Michael (Cynthia) Tamsin, Mark Tamsin, and Leonard "Babes" Tamsin, all of Branford. Sister of Claire (Richard) Falkner of North Haven. She is also survived by her former daughters-in-law, Maria Gargamelli and Sharon Tamsin; grandchildren, Jacqueline (Henry Fresenius) Tamsin, Mark (Erica) Tamsin. Michael A. Tamsin, Tanner Tamsin, Tara Tamsin, L. Marshall Tamsin, and Brian Dolomont; and great granddaughter Sophia Rose Tamsin. She was predeceased by a sister Rose Rattray and brother Vincent Raiola.
A lifelong resident of Branford, Dorothy was a graduate of Branford High School Class of 1940. She graduated from Larson Junior College. As so many of her generation, she served her country by enlisting in the Navy Waves. She attained the rank of Yeoman First Class where she was a Coded Message Traffic Manager. After her discharge she worked with the Government Price Control Board and then Gulf Oil in New Haven. In fulfillment of her High School Year Book listed ambition of marrying a football player, in 1948 she married former paratrooper Leonard Tamsin of Branford who would be a future member of the Branford Sports Hall of Fame. As a stay at home mother she raised 3 boys in the typical baby boom fashion of the day. As her children's ages allowed, she returned to work in the Assessor's Office in the Branford Town Hall. Dorothy retired in 1997. She enjoyed traveling, going to Italy several times. She was a longtime member of the Branford Democratic Town Committee. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family at holidays and of course every Sunday. Dorothy's fun and pleasing personality will be remembered by all who knew her.
