At her home January 6, 2010, Marguerite "Peg" Ballard, wife of 51 years to the late Richard Ballard, of 2 Oakdale Rd., Branford.

Peg was born May 28, 1921 in Waterbury, CT, daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Canning. She received her Bachelors Degree from CCSC and her Masters Degree in Library Science from SCSU. She was a kindergarten teacher in Bristol and Branford, and a school librarian, for many years. In 1968 she was named "Kindergarten Teacher of the Year," by Parents Magazine. She taught the first special education class in Branford, and she was a member of the honorary education society, Delta Kappa Gamma.

She was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Branford, a member of the ½ Hour Reading Club, the Branford Garden Club and the New Haveners. Peg was an avid reader and bridge player, and she loved to travel. She was a big fan of the UConn women's basketball team, attending several Final Fours.

She is survived by her children, Richard Ballard of West Haven, Anne Ballard of Branford, and Beth Ballard of Milford, six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Brian Wynne and her sister, Betty Quinn.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday January 23, 2010 at 11:00 am in St. Mary Church, Branford. Burial will be private, and there are no calling hours.
