In New Haven January 22, 2010, Katalin Patai DeGennaro, beloved wife of Alfredo DeGennaro of 100 York St., New Haven.
She was born January 1, 1930 in Szolnok, Hungary, daughter of the late Frank and Anna Rakozi Patai. She was a retired secretary, having worked for A. G. Edwards, and prior to that she was a child care worker for Phyllis Bodel Day Care Center in New Haven.
Besides her husband she leaves two children, Beatrix A. Rashid of Evanston, IL, and Mark Potocsny of New Haven, two step-children, Ellen M. Boone of Deep River, CT, and David DeGenaro of East Haddam, CT; and seven grandchildren, Robert and Daniel Rashid, Sara and Alexander Potocsny and Jennifer, Michael and Lisa DeGenaro. She was predeceased by a step-son, Gary DeGenaro and a brother Frank Patai.
Katalin was a lover of life and of all people and her hospitality was legendary. A true creative spirit, she raised cooking to an art form and left a legacy of hundreds of original poems in her native Hungarian.
Her funeral will leave the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Branford, Friday morning at 10:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church at 11:00. Friends may call prior to the funeral from 9:30 – 10:30 at the funeral home.
