In Branford, February 14, 2010, Ruth Irene Oppel of Red Hill Rd. Branford. Wife of the late Earl Oppel. Mother of Jim Oppel (Brenda Handy) of Branford, Paul Oppel of Florida, Wesley Oppel of Gulf Port, Miss., John Oppel of Branford, Rodney Oppel (Elizabeth) of Branford, Larry Mains (Joanne) of Franklin, TN, and Jacqueline Atkinson (George) of Durham, CT. Sister of Donald Lines of Washington, Claire Lines of Maine, Virginia Tooley of Michigan and Helen Thompson of Michigan. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Oppel was born in Jackson, Michigan on August 12, 1929, a daughter of the late Russell and Mildred Lines. She worked for Cherry Hill Lanes in Branford and was active in organizing bowling leagues in the area. She was an active fan of the UCONN Women's Basketball Team. Her family wishes to extend a special thanks to Barbara from the VNA and Jennifer Gladding for all their help.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 27 at 11:00 at the Church of Christ Congregational in Stony Creek. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd. Branford, CT 06405.
