In New Haven, February 27, 2010, Virginia Washington of Pine St., New Haven, formerly of Branford. She was the wife of the late Wilbur Washington. She is survived by her son Carlton Washington and her daughter Belinda Washington, both of New Haven. She is also survived by her brothers Richard and Charlie Barrett and sisters Patsy Barrett and Pearlie Evans, all of New Haven. She also leaves 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, several nieces & nephews, friends, and neighbors. She was predeceased by her brothers John Barrett Jr., Willie Barrett, and Grey Barrett.
Mrs. Washington was born in Snow Hill, North Carolina, a daughter of the late John Barrett Sr. and Captoria Beamon Barrett. She worked as a registered nurse for the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven for 41 years, retiring in 1998. She was a Girl Scout Leader for more than 25 years. She was a long time Branford resident and member of St. Stephen's A.M.E. Zion Church in Branford. She also served as a Deaconess at St. Stephen's Church.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 at St. Stephen's A.M.E. Zion Church on Rogers St. Branford. Burial will follow in Branford Center Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:00 at the Church. The W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St. Branford is in care of arrangements.
